Linux Fest NorthWest in review.

At the ubuntu booth at linux fest NorthWest this year, we gave out around 450 cds, many of them 8.04 cds. We had quite a good time helping out and seeng the interest. i think overall, we did quite well this year.

I got to see Matthew Craig again this year, who visited from the East coast saying that people at other such conferences “just dont get it” and commented on their iPhone toating ability.

I also got to meet the author of Hackett and Bankwell, a comic that introduces people to Linux, GNU, and ubuntu, and explains how to do some basic things. I highly recomend it to anyone who is trying to get family members on board. you can order it at http://hackettandbankwell.com/ .

p.s. Im going to post my slides from both toorcon seattle and LFNW in the coming weeks when i get some extra time.

Linux Fest NW

LFNW was great this year. I helped at the Ubuntu PNW team booth. We handed out the upward of 400 Ubuntu Fiesty cds. We learned some lessons, such we need to burn a lot more cds before hand. I was glad to see that the NW Mono Users had a booth there (run by CJ Collier). And I got a shirt from Mysql.  Some pictures i took are here

Last Thursday, I was in the Seattle PI, commenting about the the DEll ubuntu thing. Click here for the online version.

Forget LVM…

Lvm is complete junk, im now using RAID0, it actually partitions correctly. I also tried Edgy Alternate install on the dual proc, and something is wrong with the edgy drivers for the Matrox 550. So im currently installing dapper, hopefully it will work. I cant wait for the next LTS.

news

Currently waiting for installation of Ubuntu on the dual proc, so i took some time to look at he Power over Ethernet injector/receiver i have been working on. I still need to go to radioshack to get those DC power plug/socket. (yes i do hate radioshack because the people working there don’t know very much about electronics, but where else are you going to get a coax power adapter?)

itunes watch out

i found songbird a couple days ago and now have said it is the crossplatform GPL’d itunes. Get it at http://www.songbirdnest.com/, if and only if you know what beta means.

Well The current events.

Im going to get two p3 computers one dual processor from a friend, and mess around with them, probably putting ebox on them to use for our router. I  have been experimenting with ebox in vmware, and i think its time to move to real hardware. I usually use ubuntu, but debian is good too.
